CLINTON, S.C. – Earning a 4
th place national finish at the NCWWC Championships last weekend (and doing so as a true freshman nonetheless),
Madeline Kubicki of the Presbyterian College women's wrestling team has been selected as the Adidas / Game One PC Student-Athlete of the Week.
The third time in the 2023-24 campaign that a member of head coach
Brian Vutianitis' squad has been chosen for the department-wide award (joining other All-Americans
Cassia Zammit and
Henlee Haynes), Kubicki closed an exceptional rookie season with a personal record of 32-10, reaching as high as the National Quarterfinals on Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
A signifier of Presbyterian's elite status in the sport, the Blue Hose have achieved six different top-ten placers at the national tournament over the past two years, bringing a trio of freshmen to that podium in 2024 (Kubicki among them).
Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, Madeline puts a bow on the season by displaying a .761 win percentage, the highest figure of anyone on the nationally-ranked roster.
Partly due to Kubicki's brilliance in the Midwest, Presbyterian clocked in at 8
th place as a team throughout the bracket, one spot higher than 2023's final tally as a team who entered the fray ranked # 15.
A 10-0 technical fall provided Kubicki with a solid start to the tourney, going on to make the round of eight with consecutive pins that totaled only five minutes on the dot.
From there, the rookie took down King's Yasmine Oliveira in the consolation side of class 143 (a frequent rival of PC's in the Southeast Region), one of three Blue Hose grapplers to surpass the 30-win threshold this semester.
Kubicki dazzled all season long as one of the many underclassmen that overachieved for Coach V's crew, gaining three 1
st-place medals in prior tournaments as well as a bronze tab at the Regional tournament back in February.
She amassed 16 wins via fall, along with 12 additional triumphs by technical. Day one of the national tournament was the seventh time in Kubicki's debut year that she grabbed at least three victories in a single day.
The Presbyterian College athletic department partnered with Game One on a multi-year apparel agreement in November of 2022 as an official team dealer for Adidas. The partnership extended the university's alliance with Adidas which began in 2015 to outfit the Blue Hose athletic programs.
Game One is among the largest and fastest-growing sports equipment and apparel suppliers in the country, serving a loyal customer base of 13,000 schools and organizations in 38 states.
