CLINTON, S.C. – Anchoring the Presbyterian College lacrosse team's defense to their first victory of the 2024 campaign in convincing fashion, sophomore goalkeeper
Kayleigh Aitken has been selected as the Adidas / Game One PC Student-Athlete of the Week.
Penciled in for her third career start after transferring to the Blue Hose from Everest Academy, Aitken was the star of the show for a Presby unit that authored its largest margin of victory in non-conference play over the past 24 months: an 11-6 triumph at Central Connecticut seven days back.
The second-year goalie halted 10 shot attempts from the Blue Devils in New Britain – a mark that tied her collegiate-best – allowing only six balls to get by including only three in the remaining 45 minutes.
Aitken and the rest of Presbyterian's back line surrendered a single score in the 2
nd, 3
rd, and 4
th periods as they sailed past CCSU for win number one, conceding just two strikes in the last 42 minutes and forcing the opposition to go 27:45 in between their only second-half connections.
A resident of Canada, Kayleigh helped the Blue Hose establish some much-needed momentum with the Big South Conference schedule looming, maintaining the wire-to-wire W by denying five would-be goals in either half last Tuesday.
Logging nearly 300 minutes in the keeper's box since February, Aitken has gathered 35 saves on the semester (with 20 of those stoppages coming against Central Connecticut and then-undefeated UMass Lowell).
Head coach
Eric Clakeley's program will pop off the lid on the league slate in just over 24 hours, beginning the Big South journey against reigning champion Mercer on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
The Blue Hose will look to expand on three conference wins in 2023 and six triumphs overall, starting their eight-game league path in Macon.
The Presbyterian College athletic department partnered with Game One on a multi-year apparel agreement in November of 2022 as an official team dealer for Adidas. The partnership extended the university's alliance with Adidas which began in 2015 to outfit the Blue Hose athletic programs.
Game One is among the largest and fastest-growing sports equipment and apparel suppliers in the country, serving a loyal customer base of 13,000 schools and organizations in 38 states.
