CLINTON, S.C. – Single-handedly inching the Presbyterian College lacrosse team a step closer to perhaps their first postseason appearance in nine years, sophomore midfielder
Emma Claire Mills has been selected as the Adidas / Game One PC Student-Athlete of the Week.
After witnessing a six-point first-half lead morph into a 4
th-quarter deficit, Mills drove a dagger into Longwood last weekend by scoring with 1.8 seconds on the clock to win the match.
Possibly the biggest highlight for the Blue Hose all season, Mills' jaw-dropper allowed PC to acquire their second Big South victory of the year in a road setting. They'd hold off the Lancers 13-12, as she also scored an earlier goal just over five minutes into the contest.
FOR THE WIN
- Dominating most of the first two periods and leading 10-4 midway through the 2
nd, Presbyterian was in great shape to put themselves back into the conference tournament picture. However, Longwood didn't go down quietly and stunningly took the lead with 3:46 left in the ballgame.
- The Lancers embarked on an 8-1 run that spanned over 20 minutes of game time, completely shifting the mood and putting Presby in a dire situation with little time to regain ground.
- Freshman
Emily Currie tied the game for the fifth time with 81 seconds left, enabling Mills' eleventh-hour shocker just moments later.
- PC missed the potential game-winner with six seconds to go, although they'd keep possession with just enough window for one last attempt. Mills knifed through the Longwood defense, falling away from the direction of the net, and completed one of the most sensational plays in program history to avoid overtime.
RISING UP THE RANKS
- After hitting 18 total points during her freshman campaign (12 goals, six assists), the Georgia native has increased her scoring production in 2025 to the tune of 16 goals and 11 dimes.
- Her 27 points are the third-most on PC's roster this spring, scoring eight times in free-position opportunities while notching at least two goals against five different opponents.
- Mills has calculated nine goals versus Big South adversaries, not to mention the Gardner-Webb meeting earlier this month where she offered up season-highs of four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
- She's secured five goals in the last four outings as the season draws to a close. Altogether, 64 percent of her shots have fallen on-goal, a number that bumped up to an impressive 77 percent against league opponents.
TOURNAMENT TICKET ON THE LINE
- This weekend will be a massive matchup for the Blue Hose and sixth-year head coach
Eric Clakeley, squaring up with Wofford at 1:00 PM from Bailey Memorial Stadium.
- A win over the Terriers, plus a Gardner-Webb loss to Radford, would guarantee that PC achieves the six-seed in the league bracket. The Scotsmen defeated Wofford the last time they came to Clinton in 2023, winning a 12-8 decision.
GAME ONE
- The Presbyterian College athletic department partnered with Game One on a multi-year apparel agreement in November 2022 as an official team dealer for Adidas. The partnership extended the university's alliance with Adidas, which began in 2015 to outfit the Blue Hose athletic programs.
- Game One is among the country's largest and fastest-growing sports equipment and apparel suppliers, serving a loyal customer base of 13,000 schools and organizations in 38 states.
